Washing
Hand wash separately in cold water with a mild liquid detergent. For the first two washes, wash it alone — natural dyes can release a little colour. Never soak for long and never brush the printed surface.
Drying
Press the water out in a towel rather than wringing, then dry in shade. Direct sunlight is the fastest way to dull a natural-dyed red or indigo.
Storing
Fold along different lines each season so the same crease never becomes permanent, and store in a cotton pouch — plastic traps moisture and can spot the dye.
Everyday habits
Perfume and deodorant go on before the saree, not over it. Iron on medium heat from the reverse side, and never over the zari.
